Thumbscrew problem

Post by New Owner »

I've had some trouble with putting new needles in my Champion Graphaphone. It seems that the screw doesn't want to hold it, and the threads seem to be stripped because the screw slides in, but yet it doesn't slide out :?: The screw doesn't appear to be stripped, so it must be the threads inside the needle chuck. Anyway to fix this?

If this is the problem then the proper way to fix it would be to drill it out to the next size and cut new threads for the next larger size thumbscrew. Adventurous people might try to let a little bit of molten solder run in and try to re-cut the threads with the thumbscrew, but they are running the danger to break the thumbscrew and make the problem worse and the fix possibly more expensive.

Most phonograph repair shops offer to fix this problem the proper way for about $10-15 I think.
