What's the story on Victor records with "VICTROLA" label ?

Post by 1923VictorFan »

Earlier today I encountered several red labeled Victor records with the usual "classical" music but instead of having the name of Victor on the label these are labeled "Victrola". I can't find anything in my books or online about this Victor variety. Can anyone help with some background about this labels story?

Victor likely decided to spread the "Victrola" name around by adding it to some red-seal records as well in around 1910. Probably to strengthen the link between premium records and premium player. At some point in the 30's the name Victor returned to red seals. I strongly urge any one with an interest to invest in the "Collector's Guide to Victor Records" a great resource.
