Reconditioning Leather on a Portable
As the subject alludes to...do folks have any tips or tricks that they have used to recondition the leather case on portable players? I imagine that the normal commercial products would help preserve and clean up cases...saddle soap.....but perhaps others have used something that was particularly effective? Johh

depending on the color of course, but black shoe polish (paste type) works well on black leatherette.

On genuine leather you could use saddle soap for heavy soiling, but generally, a wipe down with a dampened with soapy water, and a second damp rinse cloth is all you need. The same applies for Rexine.
Just be careful not to wet either covering too much, as it can soften the glue that fastens the covering to the case.
Once completely dry, just treat it as your wife would treat her favorite pair of leather shoes, by applying a good quality shoe wax in the appropriate colour.
If the leather is in pretty poor condition, you may have to use one of those liquid shoe waxes that has an applicator & you paint on first. I like to leave that stuff a week or more so it can cure properly, and then give it a coat of normal shoe polish. You dont have to top coat the paint with wax, but I like to do it because it makes it look a little more original & gives it better waterproofing protection.
