Brasso is far too abrasive to use on nickel or chromium plate. I use Solvol Autosol car chrome cleaner, which is a paste supplied in tubes. I do not know whether it is available outside the UK, but there is an active classic car movement in your country so you should be able to find something equally suitable.

Normally I apply it with a soft cloth, but for really stubborn areas I use the finest grade of steel wool.

I owned a Model 130 for many years. When I acquired it at a jumble sale for ten shillings in about 1965, the grille cloth was beyond saving, but I sourced an acceptable replacement from a fabric shop which sold small remnants.

The HMV 130 is one of the best table models ever made, and is well worth the effort of restoration.

Ditto on the Brasso. That stuff will cut right through and remove lacquer, too, as many young brass instrument players have discovered to their horror. It's worth trying toothpaste as a very gentle polish, applied with a damp rag; finest steel wool might work, too, but this I have not tried. Not all toothpaste is the same. Colgate's doesn't work for me, but Crest does. It's worth experimenting with a few different brands; you might find one that is just right, and you certainly can't beat the price and availability. (BTW, I get my complimentary Crest free at the dentist every six months, along with a new toothbrush!)

Thanks for all your advice from the other side of the ocean.
You know a website where you put the engine lubrication as HMV?
