O/T- Youtube partnership programme

Post by gramophoneshane »

Does anyone here have hands-on experience with the youtube partnership programme?
Last night I received an email from youtube inviting me to join this programme. Apparently an ad is placed beside your videos & you receive a small percentage of the revenue on a per video view basis.
There is information on youtube about the programme, but no doubt it would all be aimed at encouraging you to join ( though I haven't actually looked into it yet), so I was hoping someone here might be able toshare their experience with it.
I guess what I really want to know is if it's even worth the effort of filling in the form?
I'm kind of leaning toward it not being worth it, as a taxable income that I might end making $5 a year from lol.
My channel is certainly no VEVO or Smosh, so Im sure we're talking extremely small amounts of money here.
Any thoughts or experiences?

I would be interested in hearing response from others as well. I looked into it a few months ago too. From what I understand, if you agree to take part and add it to one or more of your videos, you get paid every time someone watches. If signed up, there will be a 15 second advertisement that plays first when people click to watch your video. I guess the companies with the ads pay youtube so much per click and then because you allow the ad to play before your video, you get a small cut for helping advertise. It makes sense but like you said, won't make you rich anytime soon.

I'm not sure how much you get per click but it would probably take a thousands of views on a video to make a few dollars. But if you are highly followed on Youtube and consistently have hundreds of thousands of views on your videos you could in theory make some decent money. I know I wouldn't become a millionaire...my highest viewed video is only around 75,000 views.

I am interested to hear if anyone else has experience with it.

I went ahead and signed up for the revenue sharing thing on youtube for one of my videos. It may take up to 2 weeks to start but I will be able to track information regarding views, payments, etc. and will keep this thread posted for the record. If all goes well, I will be rolling in the pennies I will make! : )

Exactly the reason I decided to decline their offer :)
Even my highest viewed video of 360,000 has taken 3 years to them, and would amount to $36- or $12 a year.
Im just not that money hungry Im afraid. It's not worth the 5 minutes I'd spend filling in the form.
Even if I was being paid for all 1883 videos since I joined 5 years ago, & their 5,000,000+ views, it would average out at a little more that $1000 per year. I could do that in a week selling a handful of my better records on ebay

As someone who fast-forwards through the ads on TV programmes which I have recorded, I would soon tire of having to endure ads before viewing YouTube clips.
