Re: Big auction in Souther Indiana
I live 20 miles east of Lexington (which is a little Podunk spot in the road) and never hear of machines of that calibre around there. Mike Taylor and his dad ('Team Taylor') have got to be the worst and crookedest auctioneers I've ever encountered -- wrapping on the lectern, etc. I'm in Louisville right now, 50 miles away, but I reckon I'll mosey and see what's up. Maybe Steve Oliphant WON't be at this one like he was at a little auction in Charlestown, Indiana a couple of years ago where there was a Triumph with a J repeater. Boy, was I semi-surprised to see him in my backyard! I didn't stay for the auction.

Re: Big auction in Souther Indiana
Well, the XVII was a 130, there was no XVIII and no Concert. The auctioneer couldn't explain why, of course. It looked like it was only a guy from Cinci and me there with any sense, when in walked Gregg Cline. He outgunned me on the Vic VI with the 24-B horn. The Cinci guy bought the V with black & brass for $1200. The VI Gregg bought was sitting on the exact same big poorly-refinished Salter cabinet that Mike Patella had in Orlando three years ago for $4500. The ding-dong-daddy-from-Cincinnati bought it for $1600. The Sonora Grand was oak and someone had married a mahogany tone-arm to it. I forget what it sold for . . . $450 maybe? The 130 brought $575 from an antiques dealer. There was also an L-door XVI and another Vic VI and a Victor E. I left before any of that sold.

Re: Big auction in Southern Indiana
I thought this was the second weekend for the auction. I did see a picture
of the XVIII somewhere. It was obviously refinished as you could see where
they stripped around the decal in the lid.
What did the VI with the 24Brass horn sell for??? That would have been my
backyard too if I hadn't moved!
There was another collector in Shelbyville Indiana who passed and they had an
auction at his place. I bought 78 record by the box. The boxes were huge and
were from a liquor store. I won choice at 37.00 and got some great records.
The other bidder wanted the diamond discs. There were 250 boxes and I let him
get the next one. Then it seemed we went back and forth. The last bid of $5.00
I bought 20 boxes. Think I came home with 30 plus boxes. Plus 5 boxes of new
sleeves that were unopened. They were five bucks too. The records were sorted
by label. Imagine my surprise when I won choice at $37.00 and took the box of
Paramount race records!
Never knew this collector lived so close. Not really any great machines. I sometimes
wish i had bid on the tinfoil replica. It went so cheap. But I had so much
stuff already and knew I was moving at that point.
Funny how you don't know of a long time collector right in your back yard!! I wonder if
there are any up here in the mountains??
