Odd Spindle Hole Adapters
What do most folks do to play a 78 which may have a non-standard spindle hole size? I tried to fashion one from wood which was not very satisfactory, so I'm thinking custom shaped and drilled from some aluminum stock may be the best answer for keeping shape & strength. I picked up a one-sided Oxford of Collins & Harlan that has about a ⅝" center hole, I don't think that was a very common size. The label wear around the hole looks like it might have been post manufacturing 'altered' to this size....yet the hole is not completely uniform all the way through the record as it would be if drilled or otherwise altered, it is almost as if it was cast and a little mold flashing were left on one side. Any best material for making an adaptor? John

Hi John,
Somebody drilled that out to fit a Standard machine, most likely. I had somebody make me up a few several years ago from metal, I don't think they're aluminum, though.
Kurt Nauck used to sell a set of these for the various makes that used larger spindle holes in their records for various machines like United, Standard, Harmony, Aretino etc. He may still have them available. Check his website www.78rpm.com

Re: Odd Spindle Hole Adapters
There is a guy on eBay who sells aluminum adopters for playing Standard records. I bought one from him about a year ago. They are well made and not too expensive.
