It would be nice to see them come out with these reproduction cylinders.
The Laughing Song - 2 minute George W. Johnson
Come Josephine in My Flying Machine - Jones & Murray
Yes We Have No Bananas - 4 minute
President Roosevelt Speech (any one of them) - 4 minute
Would also be nice to see some of these late isssued amberolas in blue 4 minute cylinder. (Ruth Etting, Vaughn Deleath, B.A. Rolfe, Piccadilly Players etc.)

My sentiments exactly. Norman's "Kansas City Kitty" is about $500 cheaper than an original and the sound quality is top notch.reprorecordfan wrote: The titles they issue are also good, why pay $ 500+ for a copy of Kansas City Kitty, with splits and chips, you can get a nice copy from Norman at Berlin Phonograph Works for around $ 100.00. Also, they have a nice set of brown cylinders to look like brown wax! Tell me where you can get brown wax era (1890's) recordings for around $ 100.00. The old originals are so fragile and can go in excess of $ 100.00 easily.

Just curious, but what sort of stylus were you using?reprorecordfan wrote:I played it maybe 10 times and it just cut to pieces, like shredded the coating off..I threw it away, I don't think they fit very well either, my stylus was good and I was disappointed, .
For that kind of damage to occure after only 10 plays, I'm guessing you must have been using one of Edisons diamond reproducers?

I didn't think Ruth Etting any recording for Edison. She was too famous for Edison's budget.BigCylinderFan wrote:It would be nice to see them come out with these reproduction cylinders.

Almost all the resin cylinders made today, are contracted through Vulcan. Who knows how long these will last? However at this time the material appears to be indestructible at this time, and very hearty. They do have a little higher surface noise than metallic soap, but good.
Making cylinder records is very expensive, for the molds, and the time involved. I think the molded records, take a day each to make. The molds are made the same way that Blue Amberol molds are made. ( a wax master prepared, it is then coated with graphite, and put in a nickle plating bath, and then a copper plating bath, (this takes probably 2 days to grow the mold around the master) . The copper is turned down, to fit in a steel backup shell. The resin is also very expensive.
To give you an idea on time, on making the metallic soap blanks in the correct manner, and the labor involved.
3-4 hours to make the wax, then it must cool overnight. (If making over 100lbs it takes 12 hours to cook)
22 min-1 hour molding time for each blank.
2 weeks minimum to cure
20 minutes each to shape, ream and shave. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to pack and ship a dozen blanks, when assembling the boxes.
And also it is a 1 to 3 ratio, for every 1 blank, 2 are rejected.
To be honest the blanks alone should sell for at least 75.00 each, but i don't think anyone will pay that. It is a miracle that anyone wants to produce these things, they are difficult to make, and not appreciated.
