Orthophonic Soundbox Cover

Post by Victrolacollector »

I have a Victrola 2-55 Orthophonic soundbox cover, it has been rebuilt but cant get the cover bezel to screw on with the four screws. has anybody had this happen? I am wondering if i need longer screws or a little wider screws and just strip it out with bigger screws?

Haven't had any problems at all with the ones I've restored. These were those Orthophonic boxes that were made for portables, had the external cover with 4 screws.

Is this cover and screws the ones that were originally on this soundbox? What are the screws doing, just not going far enough to stay in or tighten before the cover bottoms out, or not threading in in the first place, or ?

You have to be careful with the screws as they are usually of brass and pretty short. The cover is easily warped so you will need to "press" it into position and line up the screw holes. The pot metal easily strips so you might try a touch of glue on the end of the screw to help it hold. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all your help, I did end up cutting a new piece of felt for the soundbox cover, and the cover went on great, then, I inserted the screws and they screwed in nice, I think the felt helps keep the screws snug, anyways the cover stays on and doesnt fall off.
