The proto-history of recorded sound gets more exciting all the time as new discoveries are being made, and modern technology makes it possible to hear them. Some of Bell & Tainter's earliest work has just been discovered:

I can't seem to get the Wav files to play. Is anyone else having trouble with the links?

The Hamlet excerpt works for me, but it's slow going. Don't expect anything spectacular. In view of the results, it's hard to believe that they spent all that $$$ "recovering" the data.

Totally disagreed! I think this is a fabulous use of resources and I find this very interesting. Looking forward to when they find the Lincoln phonautograph recordings (should they actually exist). Could you imagine the $$$ that would be spent on recovering that? Well worth every penny.Henry wrote:The Hamlet excerpt works for me, but it's slow going. Don't expect anything spectacular. The Hamlet recording actually is pretty incredible, and the best-sounding out of all of the recordings.MTPhono wrote:Totally disagreed! That Lincoln rumor has been around for years, but I read somewhere on the vast Internet that the rumor had been disproved. A pity.MTPhono wrote:Henry wrote:Looking forward to when they find the Lincoln phonautograph recordings (should they actually exist).
