Thanks for posting these pictures—you can definitely see what George was talking about (regarding the index) in the 4th picture. Because of that, the sideways orientation almost seems to make more sense, as long as you don’t want to put that side against a wall.

Just to add some confusion, here's a photo of the interior of the record drawer under the "A-150." Note the difference in the index numbers relative to the one under Jack's "A-100.". Perhaps mine was meant to open from the rear?

Note also the surviving brace to the rear side of the machine (to the left in the photo). It is not shaped like the braces normally seen on these machines. The side braces were removed by a previous owner, no doubt so that a record drawer could be installed...

George, I really like the oxidised needle type reproducer with the A150. Looks like you have a real nice combination there. If you have another one of those reproducers let me know!

That’s...unique. Perhaps they had some quality control problems and the person who assembled yours was 180° confused?

Did Edison have a history of being inconsistent with things like this?

Edison certainly had occasional problems with product consistency, but these record storage drawers weren't manufactured by Edison. (Edison didn't even manufacture its own Disc Phonograph cabinets.) I've been meaning to explore the Talking Machine World microfilm to determine who offered these drawers. I'll soon have plenty of time to do so - - I'm retiring in April!

Concerning Edison cabinet sources- there were several manufacturers. I'll give a free copy of "Kansas City Kitty*" to the first person to respond and provide a list of those cabinet shops.

Now to add a little information/mystery to this discussion, I found a glued on label inside the A-100. It says: Edison No. 9 Cabinet Factory Form 890. Also, I have an Amberola 50 with a similar label, Edison No. 15 Cabinet Factory Form 890. Can anybody confirm if these were pasted on by the outsource cabinet factory?

I believe the earlier of the Cabinet Factory labels are Form No.890, while after 1919 some cabinet factories used Form No.2430 There's an early style "S-19" here(Factory No.30), an "LU-37", a "B-19", and a "Schubert" (all Factory No.18) all bearing the Form No.2430. There's an "A-150" (Factory No.2), a "B-250" (Factory No. 5), and a "C-250" (Factory No.19) all bearing Form No.890. As for the code for those cabinet factory numbers, I'll offer TWO of Jack's copies of "Kansas City Kitty" for that information!
