Pot of Gold
Victor Victrola Talking Machine VTLA 8654
In good condition, needs a little polishing up and maybe a little bit of repair. Comes with a book of records as well.
I am posting this for a friend and they remember it working but they told me there is a little something wrong with it. You are more than welcome to come look at it and see if you are interested.

Antique phonograph collecting is like fishing. The good ones get away. But not always. The fun part is catching them. It's not like collecting stamps or coins, which you order out of a catalog. This hobby is visceral, face-to-face, aggressive, competitive, like a sport.

You and me both! I called as well earlier in the day, and was told it had already been sold.Gleemanguy wrote:I was surfing the web this afternoon and came across this beauty. "In your face" is not "face to face". While one can win a smaller item on eBay and have it shipped, the ones such as the topic of this thread have to picked up in person. You have to call, make an appointment, make the drive in your truck as a phonograph like the one above won't fit into a small car, and be prepared turn it down and go back home (although not in this case). That is very much a face-to-face negotiation and a passionate, physical chase. AND competitive, since there is only one and the early bird gets the worm. Passionate and competitive as in "I immediately called but it had already been sold and picked up by the buyer. I wasn't lucky enough to make the purchase, but my heart is still pounding". If you do not have the passion to chase "some dusty old record players" then you will lose to someone who does.
