Many thanks for the link to your pictures. They will be a tremendous help as I set about putting things right.
Here is a picture of the first cleaned bits. Wish I had taken some before pics. The crank and brake mechanism were almost totally black and you could see little of the gold fancy work on the motor plate. I was amazed at what was still there under all the grime.
There is some loss of lacquer on the plate, but not too bad and it is worst underneath the turntable where it won’t show. (Valecnik mentioned earlier in this thread that is a known problem with these machines.) The turntable is an Edison, but not the correct gold edged one. I will replace that.
As you can see the motor plate is black, so, as I think somebody else already mentioned, there were black ones as well as the brown and maroon.
For now I am laying in wait for some poor unsuspecting neighbor with a strong back who will help me get the cabinet out of the car and into the building. I’ll put up some “before” pics of it when I get it in.
