He scaled greater heights as an entertainer later on, of course. People forget how big he was in the industry. If one looks at all the stats together (Academy Awards, record sales, charting hits, ect.) I don't think there's been anyone since to match him, for all around pervasiveness.
He made some good LP's, like the Bing Sings, Bergman Swings thing.
