Ok, I'll play. My main storage pictured below holds my 300+ cylinders, and some disc records. I keep my Victor scrolls in an empty wine crate next to my 8-35 (Cakebread Cellars Cabernet is the perfect fit for 10" records), and then I have a record cabinet filled with a few hundred single-sided Victors.

Still looking for the Buddy Bolden cylinder, I know I saw it last month...

My phonograph storage area is still small and manageable. I'm using an Ikea shelf, it's affordable and all kinds of records fit quite nicely. Besides that I have several hundred more 78s in phonograph cabinets throughout the house. One day I will catalogue them all - maybe

That's a very sturdy shelf system from IKEA. I helped my son acquire one (it has a name but I can't recall it right now); it's a tank. Heavy as heck (all high-density board). His is painted (white); yours looks like birch veneer. It's good value for money, and the structure offers plenty of support. Those of us who live close to an IKEA store, such as the flagship US headquarters store in King of Prussia, PA, can also enjoy the Swedish meatballs* in the cafeteria: it's always the highlight of our trip!

It's called "Expedit", it's the same one I have, and yes, it is very heavy and very sturdy. It comes in a few different sizes, I have the 16-cube version. Fully loaded with 78s, I'd personally be more concerned about the floor giving out than the shelf!Henry wrote:That's a very sturdy shelf system from IKEA. That's a nice cabinet. And since the horizontal shelves rest on 3 shelf supports it can take a lot of weight. But I wouldn't dare to fill it completely with 78's!Henry wrote:That's a very sturdy shelf system from IKEA. I helped my son acquire one (it has a name but I can't recall it right now); it's a tank. I'm not a big fan of their meatballs though, but I love their apple pie with whipped cream for EUR 1,25. And with the Ikea Family membership card the coffee is free (and it's really good coffee too!).

I'll take donations of 78s to test your misgivings! And I don't even own an "Expedit" (but I could buy one fairly easily).
Next time I go down to IKEA, I'll have to try the apple pie. I need to get more adventurous in my entree orders first. Maybe the salmon next time, instead of meatballs. I might even buy some furniture, too!
