Possible e-mail scam using site information???

Post by fmblizz »

Does anyone on this board know a David Morgan from Blackpool, Lancashire??

After posting a Wanted to Buy in the Yankee Trading section for phonograph related Stock Certificates I received an e-mail from this person wanting to know if I was still looking. He wanted my home address and phone number. The whole tone of the e-mail came accross like it could possibly be a scam.

Might be over reacting but wanted to throw this out to members.

Never had this happen before.

I got a junk e-mail from the same guy asking if I was still looking for PARTS for a VV 4-20. The whole tone really stank. If you get an e-mail from this guy, report it as a scam. He's getting our info off of this site.

I just got an email from this guy asking about the turn table I wanted for my Columbia AH. I didn't give him my address, but I gave him my phone number. I thought this site was safe from those kind of people. I thought he was legit. Thanks for the heads up.

I posted an (ignored -- typical for most things I post) comment about this in the other string. If you set your member profile to accept email messages, then a jump to your email address appears in your post strings. Anyone, regardless of whether or not they are logged in, can see that jump and send you an email. (That, by the way, includes Spambots.)

I don't know if David (MordEth) looks in on this site anymore, but if he does, it might be advisable to make the email jump viewable ONLY to logged in members, as it is for the PM jump.

Just my two cents.

I did get an email from David Morgan about the AH turn table that I am interested in. He quoted me a price of $400.00 LOL for it. He's a scammer, no doubt about it. I didn't respond or replied to him.

I thought you had to be logged in to see the email, but I'm noticing now the button at the bottom of each post. Email addresses should be hidden by default. That is a major goof by the board owner.

Yikes. I never even paid attention to that. No wonder my spam has gone from 0 to multiple a day lately, after having the same address since 2005. That should most certainly be turned off by default.
