Thanks to all who mentioned sources & maintainence tips for the Credenza springs. Gramophoneshane, great video on the spring regreasing & barrels. You make it look so easy! Woud I were that dextorous. I'd probably want to keep the barrel stationary-some wooden jig & vice I think. By the way, for a solvent would acetone, denatured alchohol, mineral spirits, or paint thinner be preferred for degreasing?

WD-40 works pretty good for softening and cleaning old grease off the springs. I have been experimenting with
Berryman's auto parts solvent recently but have not seen the results yet. I have a dirty spring barrel soaking in
a can of that stuff for a couple days now.

Big springs like this I do outside on an old picnic table. I use plastic tubs and clean the whole motor (and the springs too) in gasoline. One tub for scrubbing parts with a paint brush and scrunge pad -the other tub for rinsing. Springs get wiped with gas-soaked rags and the scrunge pad. Gasoline and naptha smell badly but nothing is nearly so fast and the smell goes away.

I've always had good success with mineral spirits (paint thinner) as a degreaser, and it may be your cheapest option. Buy it by the gallon at hardware or big box retailers.

One new spring and both springs cleaned and re-greased. This motor is virtually silent now.
One Brunswick 210 back in circulation.

Thanks Clay! I mainly bought it so I can practice on a Brunswick motor overhaul. :) The hardest part
was getting the clam-shell style barrels apart. The springs are pretty "meaty" too, similar to the
big Edison springs.

May be picking up another project machine tomorrow...stay tuned!
