DD in RI: anyone know what model?

Post by Lucius1958 »

I'm not extremely familiar with Diamond Disc machines; but I thought I might expand my collection.

I found this machine on Craigslist, and wonder if it's worth checking out:

I'd have to see it close up, to determine if the 'minor cosmetic issues' are minor or not: but I'd like to know what model it is beforehand...

Looks like a W-250 or W19 (William & Mary).
They're a very nice machine IMO. I'd love a W-250 in walnut :)

After Photoshoping the tiny, dark picture (why do people do that?) a bit, I think you are right on as to the model. They were expensive and, I gather, not big sellers and therefore not all that common today. Whether $500 is reasonable would to my mind depend a great deal on condition. Worth it if it is a nice example.

Has anyone ever seen one of these Circassian Walnut machines or was this just advertising? If one exists, i would imagine it would bring in some good money!

I'm not sure why this listing is still up as I bought this from the seller several days ago (for significantly less than the asking price). It is a W-250. The cabinet is not in great shape (though I've seen far worse) and the mechanics, while complete, are in need of full overhaul. The reproducer has decent sound, but is cosmetically not great. I'll put a little work into it and see if it's worth doing much more.

Andersun's image is a DD-450, and yes - a handful exist. We showed Jasper Sanfilippo's example in one of our books, Phonographs with Flair. If I could have just one Edison Disc Phonograph, this would be the one.

A beautiful machine indeed. I am assuming you were responding to the OT post by Andersun.

Here are some pics. The flash makes this look better than it is. Decades of accumulated dust and dirt. Grill is missing a few small pieces. Finish is mostly intact but not great. Should be a good project!
