I have followed a VV-410, which has appeared on eBay for quite a long time. The seller has lowered the asking price several times to the point where the bidding now starts at $299.99 (Victor's original selling price). I am surprised that this phonograph has never had a bid. I can't bid on it because I have no room for it in my home. Victor produced fewer that 8,000 of the spring-wound model, and it was the most expensive and elegant model of it's series. The cabinet looks like it could clean up quite nicely and it has a rather low production number.
My reason for posting is, "is there something I'm missing"? Can any of you who are more experienced than I, and have a keener eye for history and detail, speculate as to why this phonograph has never had a bid? Go to "My eBay" and type in VV-410. The listing should come right up with numerous photographs.

I think the fact that its a console counts against it significantly. I know that for me to buy a console now it would have to be something very special. My machines are lined up like sardines at the moment so floorspace is at a premium.

Missing is the interest of collectors in the console style machines (of any make). These have never been of much interest to collectors. Also, the seller indicated it's for pick up only, and doesn't seem to be to willing to make shipping arrangements. That alone rules out a lot of buyers. I'm guessing, but the market in Michigan might not be all that good. Serial number, unless it's number 501, probably makes little difference in the value.Bruce_Van_Note wrote: "is there something I'm missing"?
