The office dictation machine, has been most overlooked by collectors, The cylinders kind of interest me, I was wondering if any of you have any information on (other than Ediphone wax, which I have the full factory instructions on how to make Ediphone cylinders and wax. ) detailed manufacturing for other brands of dictation cylinders, such as Dictaphone Nuphonic,
STANDARD, and United. I have a brown wax dication cylinder, but appears to be made later than the 30s called STANDARD RECORD Made in USA it is a greay box like the Ediphone box, these cylinders seem to have high surface noise. I also have two empty boxes that say United Record they are black with stars around the top and say Quality-Precision-Durability around the bottom. Would like to see photos of the record that is supposed to go in the United Record dictation cylinder box, I imagine they are a black wax. Formulations for these interest me. I know some of you cut Ediphone blanks down to regular entertainments size, I know the wax composition for these like the back of my hand, I have made it before. No doubt it is a great recording wax, low surface noise, high output, and frequency range, however but has some issues with holding up under many plays, and two components make it not as moisture proof, I have tinkered with this formula, and made it more stable, with the same recording qualities and no black dye (nigrosene was used to dye them black).
