OK, sorry about all of the posts! It is so easy to load the pictures into my message that it was difficult!! LOL!! Sorry for the dim pictures--they were taken on my I-pad. The first picture is of a Model E home with the 2/4 minute factory gearing. The second shot is of a Model A Home with the added 2/4 minute gearing. I used to have a later 2/4 minute gearing on this machine, but I didn't really like having the 2/4 minute switch attached to it. Recently, I came upon a parts machine model A Home, that had this older style gear change attachment, so I cleaned it up and installed it on my machine. If you don't look closely, it looks like it is just a 2 minute machine. This is what I like about these early attachments! The "y" or "U" shaped wrench is pictured in Fabrizio and Paul's Accessories and Contraptions Book, on page 95. I suspect that there are not that many of the little wrenches out there because they got lost. Maybe this is why Edison went to the 2/4 minute switch that was easily attached to your Home or Triumph phonograph. I got my little wrench, in its original envelope, with a spring motor concert machine, that had been adapted to play standard sized cylinders, and had the 2 and 4 minute gearing added! It came with a D and a J (4 min) reproducer. You can see pictures of my machine in Ron Dethlefson's book on Concert Cylinders, pages 108 and 109.

Hi Martin,

I never noticed the lip either--until I got the machine with it, and wondered what was going on!
