This seems too good to be true, but if I were closer to Independence, Kentucky I'd be tempted to check it out. Maybe the family doesn't realize the value of this model, or maybe it's being sold out from under another family member's nose(naughty, naughty). The child seems amused by the nearly mint Victor albums included with this machine.

Heck, I bought my near mint XVII for $225 on Craigslist. Lady told me by the time I got there (the following morning) she had over 55 e-mails.

It had a Ortho reproducer, which I sold for $10X, so I essentially paid $125 for an "excellent original" VV-XVII.


Then there was the time I got a VE 8-35X for $40....

I owe Dennman6 a big "thank you" for posting this thread. I read his post before going to bed and decided to look into it a bit further just in case. I received a reply the next morning informing me it in fact was due to a no-show buyer the night before. I asked her to please hold it for me until I could make the drive a bit later in the day. I ended up with it and am very pleased with the top notch condition. Again, thank you Dennman6!

I'm so glad this worked out for you! At first I thought maybe it was a scam, like a certain Berliner Gramophone on e-Bay in Eastern Europa that keeps cycling over & over & is never sold. I guess sometimes there are just really good deals out there-a combo of folks wanting to get something for what they are selling & not just give it away, & people like us who realize these things are actually worth more but appreciate the "golden opportunity". Good karma, therefore "pay it forward" later if one can. A friend of mine found me a 1909 VTLA for $60 last summer, the model style just before yours(isn't it nice that you can now say it's "yours":). My VTLA's finish wasn't quite as good as yours, the 3-spring motor needed work, one cabinet knob was missing on the left L-door, & a little of the moulding under the lid was missing. But, $60??? I felt I got it for free, even though it needed some "elbow grease" on my part. The interior is nice, the gold plating still looks wonderful, & I'm glad to have such a historic model in my music room. Congratulations on your good luck, & please do put up some pics when you have it all set up. I'm glad to have had a small part in your good fortune.

Thanks again, and I will definitely pay it forward. I have much of the L-door taken apart to be cleaned and polished so haven't been able to posted pictures yet. But I assure you I will when it is finished in a few days. In the meantime, here is what it looked like after getting it home, wiping it down with a cloth to remove the dust and cleaning some of the gold hardware with ammonia. (Which by the way is a topic of discussion elsewhere on the forum. This was the first time I tried it and it worked amazingly well!)

I finished the lid tonight, although it still needs a finishing polish with lemon oil or some other product for protecting the finish. But here it is for anyone that may be interested in seeing the progress on this one.

Like I said, I will start a thread on this machine in a few days when I finish with it. I have some questions regarding it and some odd things I found on the machine. Thanks again!
