Postcard records

Post by 52089 »

On a UK trip 20 or so years ago, I picked up about a dozen different postcard records made by Tuck's Post Cards. Here's a rough video of one playing:

When I got these I assumed they were older than they are because the postcards look like they date to the 1910s and early 1920s. However, they weren't made until 1929 or so. They're not particularly rare or expensive - I don't think I paid more than 1 Pound each - but I thought they were kind of interesting. I'm surprised that the playing surface on these holds up as well as it does!

You can read a bit more about these on this site:

I'll post photos of the other cards on request.

In 2006, I co-authored a two-part illustrated article about phono-postcards with Dr. Rainer Lotz. It is written in German, but perhaps you want to take a look:

Here is an article by Dr. Lotz titled "Phonocards History. Exploratory history of the phono postcard". It is written in English:

Very interesting: and I recognize the voice but I can't put a name on him!
