Hi
As requested, the folding morning glory horn. Designed to fold up, although I would never try, the coated canvas that it is made from looks too fragile and may crack. As you can see in the pictures the first stage of the horn is removable by pushing in two spring clips, the horn bell can then fold like an umbrella. I assume the cord around the edge of the bell is used to keep it closed.
Regards Marcel

Its raining, can I borrow your horn?
But seriously, that's pretty cool. I never knew such a horn existed.

Okay - I won't harp about how this information is readily available in books, how important it is to educate oneself, or the value of flossing every night... Ooops...antique1973 wrote:I never knew such a horn existed.

That's a beautiful example of an Ideal Folding Horn, Marcel. Although we show several makes and models of metal and fabric collapsible horns in Antique Phonograph Gadgets, Gizmos, and Gimmicks, and in Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions, we never found an intact Ideal to shoot. Yours looks virtually perfect!
Here's an advertisement from the October 1907 issue of The Talking Machine World. Sorry for the poor image quality - - this is taken from microfilm.

George, that answers my question. So the splays are black painted metal. They must be of spring steel??.

Really, that's interesting, same number of panels as a straight Triumph horn. What do the decals look like, if they are still there?saxymojo wrote:Hi
