Found phonograph?

Post by USlakeside »

How many of you have had a "find" like Solophoneman's featured phonograph No. 9? A barn, attic, bottom of a lake. Anyone find anything on the side of the road in the trash? The closest I ever came to a great find was an old lady who wanted $600 for her Edison Opera, I lost out on the deal when she sold it to a antique dealer friend who happened to come by her house .... for $700.... This was in 1998! ouch!

Yes, that Antique Dealer was certainly a good friend of the old gal. Wonder how much her "good" friend got when he resold the Opera.

My best early finds were two machines from the same house: a Triumph with a repeating attachment and a searchlight horn and a nice clean Standard- plus two carrying cases of cylinders, Edison ephemera and a catalog. The same house later yielded 250 Diamond Discs.

I think my best find so far is my VV-IX in Oak, with an oak record cabinet and 300+ records. After I cleaned up the record cabinet and machine, new springs and so forth, I emailed the seller. She was very greatfull to see it in that condition. She went on saying, that the week following me purchasing it, Wisconsin had all of the rain and flooding, and If it wasn't for me, it would have been lost in their flooded basement. A nice machine, a great cabinet, and a nice story to tell behind it.
