Stanton's Auction

Post by schallplatte »

Anyone go to Stanton's May phonograph auction? What were the highlights of the auction? Thanks.

Crowd down. Normal 75 or so reported about 50-60. Prices fairly reasonable. 6 9+ 5" Edison/Columbia concert cylinders average including buyer premium $165 each. Idealia including buyer premium $19800 sold to guess who in Florida. Some reproducers went reasonable. Nice Berliner with original celluloid tag including buyer premium close to $5000. Nice 7" Berliner record cabinet which in the past has fetched as high as $2100 went for $1320 including buyer premium. Prices realized out soon. Steve did a good job moving through many lots. Though only 1000 or so listed in catalog there were late arrivals and additional items pushing the item count toward 1600 plus. Did not follow the radio stuff. In all as in the past the good rare stuff brings top dollar. LH

There was a very nice Victor VI with mahogany grained papier mache horn in the catalogue, appeared to be in nearly pristine condition. How much did that sell for?

Thanks for the follow-up on the Victor VI. The papier mache horn on that machine looked extremely nice and that variant horn is not very common.

Unless I am looking in the wrong section of the Stanton's website it looks like they have not posted the prices realized list for the past couple phonograph auctions. I looked again recently for the November 17 - 19, 2011 auction prices realized list and it is not there. If I am looking in the wrong place please tell where I should look. Thanks!
