Mahogany Victor V. Real or fabrication?

In style, the case reminds me of the "Royal Grand" Zonophone --

I know that Victor was in charge of Zonophone production at the time this example was manufactured.

I'm also wondering if the gilded model with the "Vic. V" name plate was a special order or if it was simply assembled out of spare parts. I agree with the above comments that the gold plating just doesn't look right--too metallic; almost like polished brass.

David, I think you've solved the mystery. If you applied a little gold paint to the corner columns and tack on a Vic V ID tag, you've just about got it. Good job! Jerry B.

It's an old case. However, not a Victor... . Here is a mahogany Vic. 5.

The plating does look bad, or off, but it could be restored. Really hard to say. The Zonophone link is a really keen observation! this is very helpful. I want that Zonophone!
