Unusual coin operated phonograph!

Post by Tobia »

Hi everybody!
I need the help of the forum to collect some informations about this unusual coin operated phonograph.
Have you ever seen something similar? It remembers me the Regina Hexaphone.
Some pieces are missing but I think it's an interesting machine. It's for sale here in Italy.
What do you think about it?
Thanks!

Nicola

I need to specify that I'm not trying to sell the machine.
I only need an advice because I'm interested on it!

It does look like a hexaphone, I think it is just the mechanism from a machine like that without the large cabinet and horn, these coin op machines were sometimes mounted in cases then the case mounted in a larger cabinet and I think you have the case and mechanism just removed from the huge cabinet, it could probably be modified for use in its current state

Looks like part of a Reginaphone tabletop mechanism mounted on a traditional disc phonograph case.

Regina made a machine called the Style 100 Automatic Reginaphone. It was a table top model. I'm quoting this out of Bowers book. Outside horn, shipped 1905 to 1911. About 650 made. Serially numbered from 10000001 to 1000659. It played 2-minute cylinders, equipped with either outside horn or with ear tubes. That is only the 3rd one I've seen. It looks like you are missing the top part of the cabinet.

That does look like part of a Hexaphone mechanism: http://edisontinfoil.com/hexaphone101.htm

It would seem that the part that connects to the selector knob is gone

A Reginaphone table coin-op for sure. Not Hexaphone. I just wish Nicola showed the rest of it. The top is sitting on the side showing one of the glass panels.

I would think potentially a real treasure once restored, if it can be bought at a reasonable price.

Definitely a Reginaphone tabletop! Thank you very much for the advice guys!
I'm a bit scared about the missing pieces...I believe that they are almost impossible to find. Today I'll talk with the seller to know exactly what is missing. I don't know if the piece on the right of the first picture is the top of the cabinet, I hope so.
I attach the only other pictures I have, that are only details.
I've just read your comment Clay, the asking price is about 1300 USD.
I don't know if it's a good deal...
