Ginn music education records

Does anyone have information on the Ginn Music Education records, and a list of titles? There was an article at the Mainspring Press but it vanished a few years ago.

I'll telephone a friend of mine in St Paul who is a pretty advanced Gennett collector, who doubtless has the information.

I find the records to be very interesting. They are the only substantial recorded legacy of Henry Hadley, eGnnett's recording was much better than its pressings show. If only some of the Gennett jazz sides had been pressed in Bridgeport!


I've noticed the same thing with Harmony laminated pressings of old Columbia material, dating to as early as 1901. These late pressings (of Uncle Josh, Billy Golden, and such) show just how fine a job Victor Emerson was doing back at the turn of the last century.

I'll be able to compare pressings soon- I have some Columbia pressings and a bunch of Gennett pressings are arriving in the mail. Most selections on the records are short (3 or 4 bands to a side) but some cover a full side.

Hadley was quite a fine composer. He can be seen on film in a Vitaphone short.

Just got the box- not possible to compare pressings though because the Gennette pressings are acoustic and the Columbias are electric. Very interesting to hear changes in sound, and even in key.

I've found some information on the series in a NY Philharmonic discography. I've also ordered a copy of the classroom book which was used with the records.

Now Columbia re-recorded many of these discs electrically. The pressings to which i was referring are Columbia New Process pressings made from Gennett acoustic stampers.

My friend is away from home. Will post more information after he gets back to me.
