My Weekend find !

Post by NE-VICTOR-MAN »

I was at my Sister's and as I was leaving I noticed that the guy next door had a Victrola on the back of his trailer he uses to collect scrap metal. I went over and asked him what he was going to do with the Victrola. He said he was going to scrap it for the metal parts. Well I couldn't let that happen. He saw I was very interested and told me he couldn't let it go for less than $100.00. I said OK and we loaded it into the back of my SUV. The Victola was so dirty you couldn't tell what the wood was.It also had many paint spots of various colors. When I got home and cleaned it up it is a nice Brown Mahongany . It is a VV-XVII #14157. The paper tag inside the record section is dated April 15, 1918. It has some issues. At sometime in the past the right wing was broken off. It is missing the record cabinet key and crank escutcheon. It runs fairly quite. The turntable felt is still clean and bright except for some rust stains at the 10 inch record edge. The gold plating is still bright and clean. The Reproducer looks never rebuilt but puts out a loud and clear sound. All in all I think I made my best find so far. This shows you that there still are machines out there . When I get my camera to work I'll try and post some photos.

We need a medal for Victrola Saving!

congrats - it's always a good feeling to preserve something for the future to enjoy. To paraphrase the old Patek Philippe ads, you never own a Victrola, you just pass it on to the next generation.

Nice save indeed. Look forward to seeing pictures. Wonder if you can find someone to craft the missing wing? The rest should be fairly easy to deal with.
