I don't know, he could probably have an entire additional shelf if they were more practically spaced.
The spacing is what I really like. Makes the records easily accessible and there are not so many in a lump that they are stressed by the weight of their neighbors, who keep wanting to push them over. Right now I have open shelves about 3 feet wide with the occasional metal bookend stuck in to provide some support. Far from ideal. Some day I will build some custom shelving, or get some built, and they will likely look a lot like this gentleman’s.

Arthur W. J. G. Ord-Hume's Laws of Collecting
1. Space will expand to accommodate an infinite number of possessions, regardless of their size.
2. Shortage of finance, however dire, will never prevent the acquisition of a desired object, however improbable its cost.

That would be a hoarder. A collector always tastefully displays machines. :D
BTW, the machine in the picture is a gramophone rather than a phonograph ;)

Yes, certainly, but most participants in this forum call themselves "phonograph collector." I am sure many are personally addressed by the contemplative scene or "momento mori" of a collector's life, so wonderfully captured by the photographer.

This is not quite correct, a Pathé disc phonograph with two turntables is clearly visible on the low table in the foreground.
