Victor tone-arm fits VV-IX?

Post by muffinass »

Came across this:

Does anyone know if this would fit a Victor VV-IX?

Has anyone tried re-fitting a gold-plated tone-arm for this model table-top?

The answer is probably "maybe". The IX was around for a long time and probably went through several design changes. I pulled one off an early model 9 and the diameter on mine is 1 ¾ inches where it joins the machine. It is also a little shorter, but that could also be a design change. I know they got fatter with the later models and the length may have changed as well. This may be one that would fit a later model IX. If the hole in your motor board is less than 2 ⅛ inches you're out of luck, otherwise it may be worth a chance.

Aesthetic reasons - which I'm sure is a no-no for collectors but seeing as how some table-tops (if I'm not mistaken) did come with gold plated tone-arms, I thought why not?

I will take it apart in the next few weeks and take the necessary measurements.

Thanks!

The table tops with gold plating would be very early models like the XI, and XII. These would be the skinny tone arm. I don't think any of the IX had this, but I suppose someone could have custom ordered one. It would look a little odd with the rest of the parts in nickel, but would look OK if you didn't know what to expect.

Oh, by all means I wouldn't change just the tone-arm and leave everything else as nickel. I was planning on buying replacement gold-plated parts for the machine.
A bit of a vanity project but I'll see how it cleans up first.

Well, depending on the age I may have some gold parts lying around that are yours for the shipping cost. I tend to buy a lot of termite food for the spare parts. If you post a photo of the original parts I'll take a look in the basement. I don't have any reproducers or needle cups, but might have brakes and speed indicators.
