Correct assembled order?
I am cleaning up and reassembling a VV VI tone arm with the bracket..am I correct that the race ring goes in first with pleated side up...then ball bearings placed in..then the collar piece that fits in tome arm has matching screw holes with base of arm. Does that take a screw to limit the swivel? And finally, use a lubricant on ball bearings? Thanks!

The colar piece goes inside the tone arm part. It was originally pinned inside the arm and had a projecting pin which limited the sideways motion of the tone arm but it has fallen out. The race simply sits on the cast iron part and the five bearins go in the cutouts provided for them. Clean and polish everything, of course, and then grease the bearings and race ring and you will be good to go. You can put a little screw from the inside of the tone arm with the threaded part facing out and secure it with a flat nut to replace the missing pin. This will hold the collar in place in the tone arm and will serve to limit the sideways motion of the tonearm. Experiment to find the best size of screw for best results. This will keep dents from getting into your tone arm if the lack of the pin has not already let this happen
When you are done, the arm should swing sideways freely without binding and without being loose. The missing pin or the screw you put in the bottom of the tone arm will limit ist sideways travel so that it does not hit the overhang support. Be sure to put a tiny dot of grease on the pin on the overhang support so that this is also lubricated.
