How to open a Columbia Grafonola table top model

Post by silka »

I am a brand new enthusiast and just got my Columbia Grafonola table top model. When I purchased it, I knew the main spring is broken, but I consider myself a handy man and figured I can handle it.

Now, I can't even open the cover/lid - which is embarrassing.

I removed the turn table, unscrewed the screw on the front (I noticed the hinges in the back) and can lift the top ever so slightly, but it won't really open. Now the crank is still in there and I figure that might be the problem, but I have no idea how to detach the crank.

Really don't want to break anything and hope that someone can give me the right advise. All tips I have seen already assume the lid is open to work on the motor - but I don't even get that far.

All the help is much appreciated and sorry for the super basic question.

Unscrew the crank counterclockwise. It will.
