Need help freeing Diamond Disc shaft

Post by 52089 »

I'm working on a W-250 and have an issue I have not had before. I have followed the instructions in the DD motor manual posted here, loosening the square screws and the tension spring screw, but the lift lever and shaft are not budging, even when I engage the lift lever. Usually this has been enough to get the horn to drop and separate from the rest of the motor. Am I missing something? Is there a good way to loosen this without damaging anything?

Thanks in advance.

I'd hit it with a good shot of penetrating oil and let it sit overnight. I once had a C-19 that was frozen like that and at the time all I knew about was Liquid Wrench, but it did the trick!

I had the same issue with the C150 I'm working on. A bit of rust/oxidation of the shaft had it locked up. Just kept working with it, after removing the entire mechanism from the case, and it eventually yielded. Doubtless some penetrating oil would have helped.

Thanks, all. I used Blaster PB Penetrating Catalyst and the shaft was free within minutes. First the horn dropped, then I had to hit it again to free the shaft from the bedplate. I didn't think it would stick there, but it did. Cleaning and reassembly tomorrow!

BTW, this was the first time I've had a D that had a thick washer between the finger and the bedplate. Are these mostly found on the older models?
