Hi,
Can anyone advise me how to free-up the rotation on the tone arm of a HMV 102. It's very stiff when trying to get it into the lowering on to the record.
Many thanks

Re: HMV 102
This problem is not uncommon on machines which have been unused for a long period.
Remove the soundbox, then remove the tonearm by undoing the three bolts which secure it to the motor board.
Undo the two small bolts holding the bracket at the joint in the tonearm.
Once the bracket has been removed, the pivoting end of the tonearm can be unscrewed. It is on a long thread and will need many turns to release it.
The thread can then be lubricated with a thin machine oil.
Screw the end of the tonearm all the way back in, then unscrew it a couple of turns to ensure that it moves up and down freely.
Re-assembly is the reverse of removal.
Job done!
