Re: New here with a Brunswick Model T-need a bit of help
Brunswicks seem to have spring issues for some reason: I've had three with broken springs over the years, but they are easy to have repaired and that said, the high end Brunswick motors are extremely quiet and play forever on a single wind...well more or less
Once the soundbox is rebuilt...and they're pot metal so beware...and the tone arm sealed the sound they produce from a late acoustic recording is very pleasing indeed. I've always felt their horn design is very good for an acoustic machine and they obviously did a little ..um..."borrowing: from the design of the Edison diamond disc machines. I've always thought that it was no coincidence since Brunswick was one of Edison's cabinet suppliers in the early teens.
I am one of the collectors who love the look of the console machines and this is a very pleasing design.
Brunswicks sold very well up here in Ontario...the Canadian Branch plant was here in Toronto.

Just for grins I checked my Edison W-250 Diamond Disc which has a double spring motor. After letting it run down completely, I was able to crank it roughly 110(!) times which was enough to play 5 full sides, roughly 25 minutes of play time.vinyldavid wrote:OK, so I did some more testing. Unscrewed the screws and dropped a bit of motor oil down the lube holes since I wasn't getting much play time. With a 12" record on the platter it takes 5:29 to run down from 23 cranks (no arm on record) and 3:41 to run down from 20 cranks, with the arm on a blank side of a 12" 78.
Is this normal? Also the motor makes some noises. I can record and upload them soon.
