Why there are so many people who try to play "ye olde 78s" on "Pathé "Victrola""?
I'm sure this is very damaging both to the record and the machine.

I'm more disturbed about the reproducer being on the wrong side of the record.

There is just so much that is wrong with this, I don't even know where to begin...

On these late American Pathé machines, the reproducer swivels to play standard 78's. I do concur that the arm is on the wrong side.

It's not really set for vertical or lateral, it's like reproducer limbo. On the wrong side. With the wrong record. He may as well just play the thing on a lathe.Tinkerbell wrote:

Sigh, sometimes I wish people would research a bit...
I wonder how many recordings that are being destroyed or damaged on yearly basis because of wrong discs on wrong phonographs?
Another "scary" video. This time, it's an Edison Diamond Disc:

Wow I'm surprised that Pathé machine can even play the record in the way it's set up!
On the Edison you can see the record turning white as the needle destroys it.

Yes and they look to have not discovered grease either. Screech!Retrograde wrote:the cranking, gawd, stop the cranking!
Not long ago I went to see a Diamond Disk machine for sale. The seller had proudly set up a Diamond Disk Christmas record for demonstration—with the 78 adopter—which had obviously not had a needle change in decades. They had the DD reproducer, but didn’t seem to know what it was for. Goodness knows how many records they had destroyed. Truly frightening!
