Alright, after obtaining new needles and playing the proper shellac records, I still get the same issue where the needle rubs too hard on the disc and stops it from rotating, this scratching my record.
I tried what I could when it came to oiling it up. The spring seems fine, and I am encountering resistance when I crank it (like you all said I should). No think sounds on my end. I'll see if I can record and upload a video of my issue.
