Need advice on stripping finish.

I started stripping my Columbia BY base cabinet and the stripper that I've used on dozens of projects in hardly touching the finish. It's like it was finished with space shuttle clear coat. Any ideas? Thanks, Jerry

Maybe someone coated it with one of the water-based varnishes or a two-part epoxy finish (Yecch!)I've never stripped either of these. I hope Google can help, Jerry.

Find someplace that you can test Laquer thinner and see if that touches it.

Jerry, You have probably already stripped the cabinet, but in case you haven't, I'll tell you what I use. Ive been refinishing furniture almost my entire life ande have encountered many diffrent finishes. I hav.e also been through many diffrent strippers. The finish could be polyurathane, which is tough. I use Kutzit brand stripper, either, liquid (for easier finishes) or paste(for tougher finishes). It removes the old finish but does not remove the original stain. I use a #1 or 2 steel wool to remove the finish, re-coat with stripper and wipe off with cotton rags. (old t-shirts or flannel sheets work best) You do not have to come back with a neutrilizing wash as it is an alcohol base and evapurates. I finish my projects with 2 coats of sanding sealer, an oil based product, steel wooling between coats. This is just a suggestion, but it may work on this or other projects. Ed

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I changed brands of stripper and it worked. I had the cabinet stripped and a couple of small areas filled and a buyer came along and bought it "as is" and preferred to finish the project himself. I understand completely as prefer to do my own refinishing on something I plan to keep. Jerry Blais
