Hi all,

I came across a Facebook post asking phono enthusiasts to put a pin on a Google map a share their location on the globe. Check it out and drop a pin. Who knows, maybe your neighbor is a collector.

How does one add one's name?

I was wondering the exact same thing. I played aorund a bit with it but still couldn't figure out how to pin my location with my name.

I may be pointing out the obvious, but start here... (NOT - see below...)

At the bottom right of the map is the edit button.

It took me a bit of squinting at the screen to finally spot it.

(Twenty years ago, I lived in Baldwin Harbor, between Oceanside and Freeport on the above map.)

Ignore this direction. I went this route and ended up making my own map to nowhere.
I finally figured it out and was able to be become a blip on the correct map.

It is pretty obtuse to use. Nothing shows up until you zoom way in to your area. And once you do, what category do you use? Google seems to insist on one.

Obtuse, indeed. Not very user-friendly at all. SOMETIMES, perhaps it depends on the default page zoom which shows everywhere except part of Asia and Australia, a red "EDIT" button will appear on the left under "Save to My Places" when you are logged in to Google. I don't know why this red button is not always there, and I'm not computer illiterate by any means. Poor software, tedious to use in this way. If you're lucky enough to have the "edit" button appear, the rest is pretty straightforward. Change from the hand icon to the pushpin, zoom to your location and place it, then fill in whatever text you want (i.e., your name or handle under Title, your basic location under Description). The hardest part is logging in and getting that red Edit button to appear. *shrug*

I'm pretty illiterate too. Really don't know how I figured it out. It took me a couple of trys but finally got it. A cool idea really.

From what I can tell, to get the edit button you will need to click the small triangle under the word Google located above the map and to the left of the screen. Once you click the triangle, a section of the page slides over to show the edit button.
