Question about an Amberola 50 and 75***Anybody!!???

Post by Jerry B. »

I have some parts listed in the Trader and I believe they are for both for an Amberola 50 or 75. Aren't the lid, front grill, and top grill interchangeable between the 50 and 75? I don't have either in my collection so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks, Jerry

Could somebody that owns both an Amberola 50 and 75 take a moment to compare the lid and grills? Please! Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I just saw your post. I have both a 50 and 75, and also assumed that these pieces were interchangeable. Oops!

The grill for the 75 is both thicker and larger in size--75 grill is about 13 inches by a little less than 9 inches and about 5/16 of an inch thick. The 50 grill is about 11 and ¼ inches by about 7 and ⅜ inches and only about ⅛ of an inch thick.

The lid is is 15 ½ by 19 on the 75 and only 13 ¾ by 18 ½ on the 50.

I didn't measure the deck on the 50 (because too many other phones are piled on top!), but the measurements on the deck of the 75 are approximately are 12 by 15 ½ inches.

Now I am really curious, so I moved the other phonos around to get the 50 open! It is 11 by 15 ¾! I can't believe that Edison didn't have interchangeable parts on these! After all, the measurements are relatively close. I was thinking about buying the grill you have for my 50, as it looks to be in such nice shape. Now I am glad that I didn't because it wouldn't fit!

You have some great prices on these pieces! I know they will be put to good use by someone here on the forum. I am not in need of these parts at the moment--but remember Murphy's law everyone. Maybe there will be a great Amberola 75 on craiglist in Riverside, CA next week, just missing the grill or lid, etc. and these parts will be sold!

Thanks Jerry for all the great parts and machines (as well as stories and advice, etc) you offer to all of us here on the TMF!

Thanks Mike for your post. I assumed they were the same but now I know better. I always sell with a money back offer so anyone is only out postage. Thanks for your help. Jerry

Mike,
Wow, very interesting. Thanks for the comparison. I would have thought they used the same components!

Thanks from me as well, Mike. I thought the 50 and 75 would have shared some of the cabinet components as well. I guess even Thomas A. Edison Inc. had limits on how far to standardize.
