Also for adjusting it, if i was holding the reproducer hanging from the neck should the top of the weight be parralell with the bottom of the body? Or is that wrong?

Someone mentioned before (am i noticing residue on the stylus), ive just played a edison bell cylinder of bedelia by harry bluff and not only am i noticing some residue, that cylinder is wearing out very quick, ive played it a handfull of times and am starting to notice " white grooves", is this the cylinder or stylus?

It's 99% likely that its the stylus.

Re: black wax cylinder damage
If rotating the stylus hasn't worked, you really should just buy a brand new stylus. I know they're expensive, but they're well worth saving your pennies for. And once you have a brand new sapphire stylus, ONLY play wax cylinders with it. Playing celluloid cylinders with a sapphire stylus designed for wax, will quickly wear the sapphire & you'll be back where you started.

Re: black wax cylinder damage
wow kurtly thanks for that photo-micrograph of your stylus.
Very well done. How did you make that picture?
I would like to photograph mine.
I would like to also see what a recording stylus looks like.
What magnification was yours taken at?
Good job.

Re: black wax cylinder damage
I just used my normal digital camera, took a closeish picture then used the digital zoom to magnify it further, I don't know what magnification it's at though!
I unfortunately lost this stylus when trying to turn the stylus, I still need to get a new one!
I don't have a recorder stylus unfortunately!

Re: black wax cylinder damage
When you said you lost it did you turn it and then later the stylus
fell out due to not being glued in properly?
I wonder if ever anyone does this again it would be best do add
some new shellac before pushing in back in.Then wait a day or two
for it to dry out properly.I would want to fill the hole with shellac
and then shove the stylus in.
I have ordered a digital microscope and will submit picks of styli.Soon.

Kirtley is that photo of your stylus before or after turning the
stylus.Because one side(top in your pic) looks more worn that the other(bottom)?
