Will You Take A Check??

This is the first " Berliner Gramophone Co." check I have had the pleasure to discover. The check is dated Nov 9 1905 and could not be cashed for ninety days. It was cashed ninety one days later on Feb 10 1906.
Some interesting things can be discovered on this little paper. First, Emanuel Blout signed it as president....not Emil or Herbert. Therefore, one can assume Emanuel had the power to do so on their (Berliner's) behalf.

The check is made out to a lawyer for $75.92. A good sum for the day. Was it a retainer or for services rendered??. I would love to know what the service was provided (if any). Was it to start the legal process of having "of Canada" dropped from the company name??. That was officially done on July 17 1909. Would it take five years.....I don't think so.
Was it to start having Herbert removed from the company....????.

It is also documented (Roll Back The Years by Moogk) that in a company meeting on June 9 1909. Emanuel Blout and Edger Berliner were listed as president and vice-president respectively.

Was there already a internal power struggle going on behind the scenes???.

Regardless, the check will be a great display piece.

It was discovered in a group of old papers. NOT Gramophone related.
