Nice NY-state Edison needs a little TLC. :-)

Post by phonophan79 »

Hey Guys -

I came across this ad for an Edison Diamond Disc Model C-450 XVIII Century English (Adam).

Well, it doesn't have the mechanics... and the legs have got the chop it seems.

Would be a nice project perhaps? Seems like one of Edison's more unusual cabinets.

...and an example of a complete cabinet... (next to last cabinet on page)

Antique Edison Disc Phonograph Chest — Mahogany. Lovely hand painting on the front and legs. Has some water marks on top. Brass tag inside reads Edison Disc Phonograph with a serial number. Would be a stunning chest when refinished. $100.

TLC is putting it mildly! It's not very far from where I'm at, either, but I'm not interested...

Yes this almost an Art Model Edison DD Phonograph comes up very seldom to the Market, The long spindle legs have at some point been CHOPPED off to turn the cabinet into an utter abomination!!! How sad, that this was done to a fairly rare and otherwise desirable Edison is enough to make you very ill. Where's my upchuck bag???

We’ll see if we can’t implement that into a later revision of the board theme, so they can be found in the seat-back pocket. Please be sure to keep your tray tables in the full upright and locked position when not in use.

It’s sad how often it seems that hacked-into-something-else phonographs seem to pop up on Craigslist, particularly when they’re a less common machine.

Low Rider Lyrics
Artist: War

All my friends know the low rider
The low rider is a little higher
Low rider drives a little slower
Low rider is a real goer
Low rider knows every street yeah!
Low rider is the one to meet yeah!
Low rider don't use no gas now
Low rider don't drive too fast
Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip and see
Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip with me ....

Ya gotta laugh or else you'll cry.....

a nicer version of this machine can be seen on misterphonograph's web site...

http://www.misterphonograph.com/EdisonDD.htm

I actually think that very machine now belongs to rocky... and if they (rock's and the one on that site) indeed are one and the same, then I've seen it and heard it in person - it's a nice one, and it's also one of the largest lowboy styled phonographs I've ever seen (which you can't tell all that easily from photos).

I posted that link in my original post. ;-)

...but Brian is right about the size, it's probably comparable to the size of my 3-C long play and that is gargantuan for a low boy.

I have a C-450 and you guys are right, it's a monster of a console. The legs are thin and it's no surprise that one or more might've broken off so the owner decided to even it up....

I bought the C-450 from Matt Brown about two years ago. Here it is on Youtube:
