What is disturbing is that eBay didn't pull the auction. If they had, it would come up with a 'does not exist' error. I fear that someone cut a side deal to buy it privately and the scammer closed the auction to make it appear more credible to the victim. If so, it will be easy for the scammer to insist on Western Union or Moneygram and the buyer will be screwed.
Don't be surprised to see it relisted.

I also contacted the seller asking if it was possible to see the machine in person as I live in an adjoining state (I really had no intention of driving there... just wanted to see the response), and got the IDENTICAL reply with ONE MAJOR DIFFERENCE. He wrote in mine:Andersun wrote:Seller contacted me after I asked to see some pictures I knew he didn't have (see below). I sent him a response asking for his phone number and told him I could pick the machine up at his home since I lived nearby. Going to Spain??? My rear end!
My Amet Cylinder Phonograph is not on ebay anymore, but it's still available for sale.
My usual schedule has been changed and I had to go to Spain to take care of some business and that's why I closed my auction.
The final price for the phonograph is US $ 3,700.00 including all the shipping costs and insurance.
Also I want to let you know that you will have the opportunity to receive and inspect the phonograph before you actually pay for it. If you are interested and want to know more details regarding the purchase just contact me.
Thanks,
Ryan
The final price for the phonograph is US $ 10,700.00 including all the shipping costs and insurance. Forced to sell.
What a donkey beret...

Rene, I'm afraid that is what's going on with this scam artist. Here is what I received.....

This tells me he's using a fake escrow site. Very common in product scams. I'm going to follow up with him to get the website, then get it taken down for violation of terms of service. Sort of a hobby of mine, killing fake bank and escrow sites....Also I want to let you know that you will have the opportunity to receive and inspect the phonograph before you actually pay for it

Latest email..........
Hi,
I'm sorry but my cell phone is not working here in Spain (it's giving me a network connection error), but please ask me your questions through email and I'll be more than glad to answer.
Also if you are interested I want to make the transaction thru Skrill (Moneybookers). This way you will have the opportunity to inspect the phonograph before you actually pay for it. I'm saying this because you will have a maximum 14 days inspection period. You will send the money to Skrill (Moneybookers) and they will keep the money for us. As soon as Skrill (Moneybookers) has the money I will ship the phonograph to you.
Skrill (Moneybookers) releases funds to the Seller once the inspection period has passed without the Buyer requesting cancellation of the transaction and upon Skrill (Moneybookers) verification of the transaction information. The inspection period is agreed to by both the Buyer and the Seller and commences once the Buyer has received the item. Funds are released to the Seller the same or next business day after completion of the transaction and upon verification by Internet Skrill (Moneybookers) Services.
As soon as I will have your full name and also your full shipping address I will open an escrow case with Skrill (Moneybookers) and they will give you step by step details on how to proceed with the deal and to make the payment.
Thanks,
Ryan
