Post by MordEth »

I saw this while randomly Googling earlier, and thought someone might be interested, especially at $20 per machine.

Antique Columbia Graphophone Dictaphones — $40 (Salem)

Dictaphone Model 7 dictation unit and matching transcriber, manufactured by the Columbia Graphophone Company in the early 1920s. These units were used in the Dr. Hannegan, DDS, office in Libby, Montana. I’ve had them since 1962. The dictation unit is in nice condition; the transcription unit is losing some paint. Both units need new belts and the transcriber has a broken governor spring. Otherwise they are in very good condition. $40 for both, cash only.

I've only checked CraigsList for potential jobs recently, and missed this. Thanks for re-posting!

You’re very welcome. At that price, I thought that someone may want to snap it up—$40 seems very cheap for the pair of those, regardless of the need for a few parts. Belts and a spring seemed very minor, especially at that price.

Out of curiosity—what type of belt do these machines take, anyway? Were they using rubber by that point?
