Song: Under The Yum Yum Tree
Does anyone with access to a complete Diamond Disc discography know if this was released in that format? It was released in 1911 as far as I can tell and was certainly on cylinder. I'd like to obtain a disc copy if it was ever available. As a personal aside it is the oldest piece of recorded music that I was ever aware of from an early age as my grandfather would sing the lyrics/tune....since he was born in 1893, it would have been on his Billboard Top 40 as a teenager. I have a friend who has been selling diamond discs (and many other 78s) via Ebay for the past year......his breakage rate is about 50% on the Edisons via the postal service. So as of last night he is "blowing them out" at $1/each for whatever I want.......since I'll have hundreds to go through, I'd like to know if I should keep my eyes open for the Yum Yum Tree. Thanks. John

I'm not seeing it listed in the excel discography I have. I's check my BA discography if I had access to it also, but I'm at work right now.
50% breakage rate? Including DDs? Yikes, I think someone may not be packing records properly. I sent thousands of discs and cylinders in the mail and I've only had one casualty that I was made aware of.

He is only referring to the DD's on breakage....probably an exageration, but enough of an issue that he doesn't want to go through the effort of Ebay'ing those anymore. All part of his father's huge record collection, he has become enough of a fan that he bought a very nice VV-XIV for himself.

Under the yum yum tree, recorded by Fry's Million Dollar Pier Orchestra, was released on Edison 51599 in 1925. It was not released on Blue Amberol.
You can hear the record at the Aardvark Mastering site (see attached link).

OK. I see that you're referring to a totally different song by the same name! Collins and Harlan recorded this on Edison Amberol 646. It was not rereleased on Blue Amberol and predates the diamond discs.

Thanks Rocky....Collins & Harlan is the version. Who would have thought there were two songs about yum yum trees!
It does not sound like I'll find it on a DD though.

Re: Song: Under The Yum Yum Tree
I have bought a number of Diamond Discs and had them delivered by mail and never had even one arrive broken, so there has got to be a packing issue.
Be that as it may, good luck on your search for Yum Yum Tree.

You might also want to hear the Victor rendition(Victor 16836-A).

Not to be confused with "Under the Bamboo Tree," by [Bob] Cole and Johnson Bros., from "Sally in our Alley" (copyright MCMII by Jos. W. Stern & Co.)John Svensson wrote: Who would have thought there were two songs about yum yum trees!
