My New VIc :)

Post by JayL »

Well!
My dream came true.
I'm finally a proud owner of Victor II .
I did not get a chance to listen to it yet, but it looks gorgeous.
What do you guys think ?

WoW!!! nice looking machine. The horn looks in real good condition. I love the look of the early Vic II cabinet. I think that means it was made between 1905 and 1909.

What's the camera? Looks like a 120 roll film job. I shoot with a Century Graphic myself.

Oh yeah, very nice phonograph!!

Very nice looking machine! Now you have to re-stain the wood wall behind to match!

Congrats on a nice machine. My first open horn machine is a Vic II just like yours. I love that machine.

Thanks everyone . I'm really enjoying it. I think reproducer though might need to be rebuild, because it distorts a bit in my opinion and screeches sometime, but than again I'm not an expert.
Also, where would be the best place to get some records ?
I looked at the eBay, but I'm not sure how can I tell if the record is still compatible with my machine.
Are there just certain labels that I should look for like Columbia, Decca or Victor ?
I like later releases around 30's 40's , the very early records that I have just not to much fun to listen to.

Congrats Jay. Of course you will get "blasting" when you try to play any electrically recorded records. Your machines reproducer was not designed for them.
Even more so the records from the late period "30's & 40's" will sound real bad.
You will need a more modern player for those....if you want to hear them correctly.
Also, as mentioned before, a Vic 2 is one of the worst designed for tracking error. So, I would not play any expensive records on it... ;) :).
