I had an Amberola in the shop awhile back can't remember if it was a VII or a X, however it had a fireside topworks, with a motor, that had an open spring like a Gem, and a rachet style crank, where you push in to wind it, the motor had an aluminum gear, and this seemed to be somewhat noisey. Is this similar to your machine?
